My daughter and I cannot thank you enough for all you did to get this order to us. The dress is just perfect - the color looks so pretty and it fits her just right. Olivia is loving the doll dress too. She has been reading Little House in the Big Woods all day and pretending to be Laura Ingalls.--Krista in PA

"We received the dress, apron and bonnet. My daughter is thrilled to pieces and I just want to commend you on the beautiful quality of the work. I'm sure Laura Ingalls would have been quite at home in them. I told my daughter that this was not just a costume, they are real clothes, of a type of fabric that wouldn't have been out of place in a pioneer wagon. Apparently this will also be an educational outfit for her school on Halloween, because at least some of her classmates have not heard of a "pioneer girl," even though they are five. My daughter was especially taken by the photo of Esther, who sewed her garment, especially with the dresses laid out in the same fabric we ordered. I feel like we have "bought locally" even though you all are in Texas."  --Julie in CA

Our History

We got into making old-fashioned clothing by accident.  We moved to Austin, Texas in 2000 and continued with home schooling our six children as we had done in Indiana.  Since we had a habit of looking for unusual ways to learn things, when we heard that Jourdan-Bachman Pioneer Farms allowed home school families to volunteer, we jumped at the chance.

For about two years, we went there one day a week and led visitors through the old houses telling them what we knew and showing them how we cooked in the old kitchens.  It was great fun but then we moved out of the city, and it was too cumbersome to go there often especially after we started our own farm.

However, during the time we volunteered, we had made our own costumes.  The Farms was set in the 1880's time period so the clothing was pioneer type of Little House on the Prairie fame.  We also began to sew costumes for other people at the Pioneer Farm, and eventually, online, which continued after we quit volunteering.

While still being a small company, we do now have several people helping us sew the actual garments, and our children still help in the business too, in various ways.

If there is anything we can do for you, or any custom changes you'd like, please ask.  We'll do our best to meet your needs.
